This online course is structured around 8 learning modules designed to deepen your knowledge and experience about the assessment of culturally and linguistically diverse students, including English language learners. The course will utilize an asynchronous structure, meaning students may log in anytime to engage with the module content and complete assignments. Each module is 3 to 4 days long, with specific readings, online activities, and assignments due at the end of each module.
Collaboration with colleagues is a major part of the course, thus many activities will be collaborative in nature. In addition, I believe that we learn best by doing. Therefore, there will be several activities and hands-on projects that will be required for the course.
A typical learning module will contain the following:
- Required readings
- Reading Discussion Boards
- Instructor presentations. (Videos or VoiceThreads).
- Student VoiceThread presentations
- Reading extension activities
- Assignment submissions
In short, the readings and assignments are similar to what you would do in a traditional face-to-face course. The online reading discussions, videos, instructor presentations, reading extension activities, and other discussion and learning activities are designed to recreate the types of meaningful interactive experiences you would normally have during a face-to-face class meeting. I believe that some of these personal and interactive learning activities may be even more effective in this online environment.
