About the Course
Use of computers to solve problems related to agricultural technology and businesses. Spreadsheets, word processors, and presentation software will be the focus. Emphasis will be on logical problem solving and data presentation using advanced features of office software. A 10000-level number is being used because it is intended as a first-year course. 
Topics include: Hardware and Windows operating system, Cloud computing, apps, etc. (Trello, Google apps, Slack …), Office, Word, Excel, Problem solving, Data analysis, Features & functions, good habits, top-of-the curve practices, PowerPoint, Video editing, Outlook, WebEx (virtual meeting room),  and other Miscellaneous topics and tools
Course Goals/Learning Objectives
To successfully complete ASM 10500, you will ...
  1. Demonstrate ability to use email software effectively including contact and distribution lists, attachments, folders, and archives.
  2. Demonstrate ability to set up spreadsheet solutions to complex problems in a logical format allowing others to fully understand your solution.
  3. Be a power user of spreadsheet software and demonstrate ability to use the following features: named cells, goal seek, solver, data tables, charting, look-up tables, conditional formatting, forms, statistical analysis, data filtering, saving as web page, import data, macros, and many intrinsic functions.
  4. Demonstrate ability to write a technical report with proper use of headings, logical flow of content, good grammar, and clear presentation of data in tables and charts.
  5. Be a wise user of word processing software and demonstrate ability to use the following features: ruler, tabs, named fields, page setup, hyperlinks, equation editor, track changes, objects insertion, and saving as web page.
  6. Demonstrate ability to deliver a clear and logically organized brief presentation or instructional software demonstration.
  7. Be a well-informed and skilled user of presentation software and demonstrate ability to use the following features: animation, hyperlinks, embedding images and video, shapes, notes, and drawing.
  8. Have experience running other software to build your confidence with new applications. Examples: virtual meeting software, downloaded simulation software, machinery management software.
  9. Have experience with mobile computing technologies to stretch your vision of potential uses.
