About the Course

Description:

The Career Planning and Development course provides ways for students to increase their understanding of U.S industry expectations when participating in cooperative education or internships. During the course, students will examine their career goals, U.S employer expectations, cultural differences in the workplace, job searching strategies, the art of networking, use of LinkedIn, and develop a career plan and an elevator pitch. Students will have a unique opportunity to visit local employers (site visits) on pre-determined dates to gain insights on work cultures and practice networking, in addition to increasing their knowledge of Purdue’s Professional Practice Programs; OPP and CCO.

Course Goals/Learning Objectives

This course is designed to provide an experienced based education to refine the fundamental skills required to be successful in the industry, while also creating awareness about opportunities for Professional Practice.Upon completion of this course each student will be able to:

  • Articulate their career interests

  • Develop a job search plan

  • Understand the U.S. industry expectations

 Last summer students visited Cummins, ZF/TRW and Ladis +Gyr as part of the course.
